Who Is God?

Bible Story: Genesis 1 — God Creates the World

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” — Genesis 1:1

Lesson Overview (45 minutes)

  • Opening (5 min): Welcome prayer and icebreaker — “What is the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen outside?”
  • Story Time (15 min): Walk through the seven days of creation using a visual timeline. Each day gets a simple illustration and one key sentence.
  • Activity (15 min): “Creation Wheel” craft — children make a spinning paper wheel with each day of creation illustrated in a section. Materials: paper plates, brass fasteners, crayons, printed template.
  • Discussion (8 min): What does Genesis 1 teach us about God? Why did God create people? How can we thank God for creation?
  • Closing (2 min): Memory verse repeat-after-me and closing prayer.

Take-Home Parent Guide

This week your child learned about Genesis 1 and how God created everything in the world. Ask your child to name 3 things God made that they love. Try this together: go on a “creation walk” around your neighborhood and point out things God made. Close by praying together, thanking God for His creation.

Week 5 — Full Preview

Noah’s Ark

Bible Story: Genesis 6–9 — God Keeps His Promises

“I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.” — Genesis 9:13

Lesson Overview (45 minutes)

  • Opening (5 min): Welcome prayer and icebreaker — “If you could bring any two animals on a boat, which would you choose?”
  • Story Time (15 min): Tell the story of Noah — why God sent the flood, how Noah obeyed, the animals, the rain, and the rainbow promise. Use animal picture cards for younger kids.
  • Activity (15 min): “Rainbow Promise” craft — children create a rainbow using tissue paper strips on construction paper, writing the key verse along the arc. Materials: tissue paper, glue sticks, construction paper, markers.
  • Discussion (8 min): Why did Noah listen to God even when nobody else did? What does the rainbow remind us about? Has someone ever kept a big promise to you?
  • Closing (2 min): Memory verse repeat-after-me and closing prayer.

Take-Home Parent Guide

This week your child learned about Noah’s Ark and God’s promise never to flood the whole earth again. The rainbow is God’s sign of that promise. Next time you see a rainbow together, remind your child that God always keeps His promises. Try this: talk about one promise your family can make to each other and pray together for God’s help keeping it.
